Essential Oils, Young Living Essential Oils
ESSENTIAL OILS:
CROSSING THE BLOOD BRAIN BARRIER

A question has come up regarding the so called Blood-Brain Barrier and the use of essential oils. It would be more accurate to consider it a sieve or filter through which only molecules of a certain size or smaller can penetrate. Most of the molecules of the substances used in chemotherapy are too large to pass through the Blood-Brain Filter which is why doctors say that chemotherapy doesn't work on brain cancer. Some of the molecules get through, but not the whole suite of drugs intended.

When it comes to essential oils, small molecules are what they are made of. That is why they are aromatic. The only way something can be aromatic is for the molecules to be so small that they readily leap from the surface of the substance and circulate in the air so they can enter our noses and be detected as odor and smell. That is why massage oils (fatty oils) such as corn, peanut, safflower, walnut, almond, olive, and other oils pressed from seeds are not aromatic. Sure, they have a smell, but you can't smell them across the room in minutes (or seconds) as you can when one opens a bottle of peppermint or other essential oil.

Back to the so called Blood Brain Barrier: Essential oils are mixtures of dozens, even hundreds, of constituents all of which are primarily composed of Carbon, Hydrogen and Oxygen. The molecules of Essential oils are all very tiny and most of which can pass through the Blood Brain Barrier. All essential oils are principally composed of a class of organic compounds built of "isoprene units," where each unit is a set of five connected carbon atoms with some hydrogens attached. Molecules built of isoprene units are all classified as "terpens." Terpenes are what make essential oils unique in the world of oily substances.

Terpenes with molecules containing only one isoprene unit are called Phenylpropanoids and are found in Clove (90%), Basil (75%), Cinnamon (73%) and to a lesser extent in most other essential oils. Among other functions, Phenylpropanoids cleanse receptor sites.

Monoterpenes (substances containing two isoprene units or ten carbons atoms per molecule). Monoterpens are found in most essential oils, but especially in Spruce (38%), Valerian (34%), and Juniper (14%) as well as Cistus, Fir and Pine. Among other functions, Monoterpenes reprogram the DNA at a cellular level which is why healings via essential oils are often permanent, i.e. the miswritten codes in the cells has been corrected.

Sesquiterpenes (substances containing three isoprene units or fifteen carbon atoms per molecule) are principally found in Cedarwood (98%), Vetiver (97%),Sandalwood (90%), Black Pepper (74%), Patchouli (71%), Myrrh (62%), Ginger(59%), as well as Vitex, German Chamomile, Spikenard, Galbanum, and Frankincense (8%). Sesquiterpenes deprogram miswritten codes in the DNA.

There are also Diterpens (substances containing four isoprene units or twenty carbon atoms per molecule), as well as Triterpens and Tetraterpens containing thirty and forty carbons per molecule each respectively.

All of the Terpen family of molecules are small enough to penetrate the blood brain barrier. Sesquiterpene molecules have the capability of carrying oxygen, like hemoglobin does in the blood. Hence they are oxygenating to human tissue and are especially effective in fighting cancer cells which cannot tolerate oxygen.

However, the combination (triple punch) of Phenylpropanoids, Sesqueterpenes, and Monoterpens is especially healing with cancers and every other type of illness. That's because with this combination you first clean the receptor sites allowing proper transfer of hormones and proper information between cells; second, you de-program or erase the wrong information from cells stored in the MRNA and DNA; and third, you reprogram the cells with the correct information so they can function properly and effect a permanent healing. To one extent or another, most essential oils contain some of all three of these three types of terpens which is the secret to their healing power. So there you have it in a nutshell: The Blood-Brain Barrier and the chemistry of how Essential Oils Work to bring about healing. David Stewart, Ph. D.

STOP the MADNESS Mad Cow Disease
Mad Cow Disease, you are what you eat by Dr Michael Greger MD

Since the discovery of Mad Cow Disease in the U.S. In Dec. 2003, the USDA has made repeated statements that consumers need not worry, as the disease can only be spread to humans and other cows via ingestion of nervous system tissue from an infected cow, not muscle meat. Interestingly enough, the USDA did inspections of meat processing plants in 2002, and found that, due to current killing and mechanical meat extraction practices in U.S. slaughterhouses, a full 35 percent of beef is contaminated with nervous system tissue.

Studies have shown that many processed meats, such as ground beef, salami, bologna, hotdogs, contain bits of the spinal column. Of course, T-bone steaks actually contain cow vertebrae and part of the spinal chord, so according to the Center for Science in the Public Interest, these meats need to be avoided as well, since cooking the meat does not kill the disease. Beef stock and beef flavoring also contain remnants of nervous system tissue, as they are typically made from boiling the skeletal remains of slaughtered animals. Boneless cuts can also be contaminated, in that the animal is cut in half with a chainsaw, down the spinal column, thereby contaminating the surrounding meat. A European study of animals slaughtered in this manner showed 100% contamination of meat. In addition recent studies show that infectious agents do show up in the muscle of the meat, and that Mad Cow and Mad Cow like diseases can be transmitted in blood.

Bovine spongiform encephalopathy, otherwise known as Mad Cow Disease, is caused by proteins, called prions, that fold themselves into abnormal shapes. Misshaped prions then cause healthy prions to fold. Together, they amass into clumps that kill cells and literally leave holes in the brain. A cow could have early forms of the disease and still show healthy behavior. If the cow is not tested before slaughter, that infected meat enters the food supply, thereby allowing the unhealthy prions to take hold in others. Because of their unique structure, prions are practically invulnerable. Prions are not adequately destroyed by cooking, canning, freezing, usable doses of radiation, digestive enzymes, or stomach acid. One study even raised the disturbing question of whether even incineration at temperatures hot enough to melt lead could guarantee the inactivation of prions. Acknowledging their relative invulnerability and fact that prion diseases are always fatal, Dr. Michael Gregor a world renowned expert on Mad Cow Disease, says, "We cannot risk these pathogens getting any further into the food supply then they may already have. We need to ban the feeding of all slaughterhouse waste to livestock as recommended by the World Health Organization back in 1996.”

In 1997 the FDA banned certain practices of feeding rendered bovine meat to other cows, based on increased likelihood of spreading diseases. Yet, within the beef industry, it is still a common practice to feed animals blood, slaughterhouse wastes, and manure. On non-organic dairies it's a standard practice to wean calves from their mother's milk by feeding them bovine blood and later feeding slaughterhouse wastes, in order to maximize profits. The problem here is that the disease can also be found in the white blood cells. Adding to the problem, unhealthy animals, known as "Downer-Cows", are not deemed safe for human consumption, and are sent off to rendering plants to make oils and animal protein products. A 2001 study in Germany found that downer-cows were up to 240 times more likely to test positive for Mad Cow Disease. In the U.S., Only 10-15% of downer-cows are tested for the disease.
